WORDCAMP

Hey Young People!

I know you've all been waiting to know what's next with the NOYS Community...here it is!

June 8th through 19th at the Craige Cultural Center (CCC), WordPlay New Orleans will be hosting its 1st Summer WordCamp! You are invited to register for the camp online. We will only accept 30 YOUTH ages 13-21, so register now!

WordCamp will take place each day at the CCC from 10am to 2pm. The CCC is located on the Westbank, at 1800 Newton St. in Algiers. If you have transportation issues, please let us know!

WordCamp will include:

  * WordPlay Workshops: Teaching styles and tools of writing spoken word, helping you learn to build content, revise your work, write more creatively, and share your work with others

  * NOYS Networking: Learning how to create media for spoken word advertising, building a youth network in the city of kids interested in spoken word, and using advertising tools to bring awareness to NOYS

  * Open Mics 101: Everything you need to know about producing a poetry venue, from different styles of shows, hosting techniques, DJing, and more!

Each day will end with an "open mic" so that you all get to share your work!

At the end of the two-week camp, YOU will produce your own OPEN MIC on Friday, June 19th, advertising it throughout the entire period of the camp, and inviting all to share in your work! After this camp, you will be ready to carry what you've learned to your schools and neighborhoods to help your own youth spoken word communities grow.

Oh, and did we mention? This camp is FREE.
