2007 BNV Finals - san jose
About 6 years ago, teens from New Orleans were introduced to National Poetry Slam competitions geared toward youth. After forming their own team, New Orleans Youth Slam {NOYS}, they began a tradition of competing in yearly Brave New Voices {BNV} competitions.
In 2007, Asia Rainey became the coach of the NOYS team, accompanying them to San Jose, California for BNV. In collaboration with other adult poets in the city, Asia sought ways to enlarge upon the outreach to more youth in the city, as well as bring greater awareness to the team and its initiatives.
NOYS is now sponsored, mentored, and coached by WordPlay New Orleans to help build a solid foundation for NOYS’ endeavors.
